• Kauboj Džim Geri (R. Mitchum) putujući prerijom naleti na grupu kauboja kojoj zapoveda rančer Džon Lufton (T. Tully). Rančer sumnja da je Geri plaćenik koga je angažovao njegov neprijatelj Tejt Riling (R. Preston) i ponudi mu posao. Geri odbije ponudu i u obližnjem gradu pronalazi Rilinga, nekadašnjeg partnera, koji mu je uistinu ponudio posao. Riling je okupio šaroliku ekipu, sastavljenu od poštenih ljudi, ali i profesionalnih revolveraša, sa namerom da Luftonu otme posao. Geri počinje da radi za Rilinga, ali savest mu ne da mira, pa se ubrzo sukobi sa bivšim partnerom. Istovremeno, sve više mu se sviđa Luftonova ćerka Ejmi (B. Bel Geddes)... Ugledni holivudski reditelj Robert Vajs, najpoznatiji po Oskarima nagrađenim visokobudžetnim projektima "Priča sa zapadne strane" i "Moje pesme, moji snovi", po mnogima je najbolje filmove snimio na početku karijere, režirajući niskobudžetne žanrovske filmove živopisnih likova i teskobne atmosfere (Nameštaljka, Kradljivac tela). Među njih vredi ubrojati i ovaj vestern, neobično ostvarenje u kojem osim vesterna nalazimo tragove još jednog ključnog američkog žanra - film noara. Ništa čudno, znamo li da je direktor fotografije bio Nikolas Mazuraka i da glavnu ulogu igra jedan od vodećih protagonista noar epohe Robert Mičam. Podsetimo se, Mazuraka i Mičam godinu dana pre ovog filma sarađivali su na noar remek-delu Žaka Tarnijera "Iz prošlosti". Osim Mičama, u filmu su izvrsne uloge ostvarili Robert Preston (Kako je osvojen Divlji zapad, Šampion rodea) i Volter Brenan, jedan od najboljih američkih karakternih glumaca svih vremena, trostruki osvajač Oskara za najbolju epizodnu ulogu i legendarni Stampi iz "Rio Brava".

• Po završetku Američkog građanskog rata ratni veteran Kirbi Jork (J. Wayne) pozvan je da zameni komandanta pred penzijom u izolovanoj vojnoj stanici Fort Apač. Na opšte iznenađenje, mesto dobija, pored svih Jorkovih kvalifikacija i iskustva, poručnik Oven Tursdi (H. Fonda) koji, iako je i sam sudelovao u ratu, nema iskustava sa Indijancima, a uz to je poznat kao vrlo arogantna osoba koja smatra da joj sasvim pripada pravo na ovo mesto. Opijen unapređenjem, on će pokušati da uništi poglavicu Apača Kočiza nakon što ga je proterao do meksičke granice, iako ga podređeni, naročito Jork, od toga odgovaraju. Jork uopšte ne ceni Indijance, ne sluša mudrije od sebe i naređuje vodu da ih napadnu... "Na apaškoj granici" slavnog američkog reditelja irskog porekla Džona Forda izvrstan je vestern iz rediteljevog tzv. ciklusa konjice (uz filmove Nosila je žutu traku i Rio Grande). Film je posebno zanimljiv jer se, netipično drugim tadašnjim filmovima iz žanra, usredotočava na prikaz uskogrudnosti i okrutnosti američkih vojnih narednika, te sa izvesnim simpatijama portretiše Indijance. Sjajno snimljen (uglavnom u rediteljevom "omiljenom" ambijentu, Monumentalnoj dolini u Juti i u nekim delovima Kalifornije), izvrsnih likova i dijaloga, film je jedan od najuspelijih vesterna svih vremena. Glavne uloge poverene su slavnim holivudskim glumcima, Džonu Vejnu, Henriju Fondi i Širli Templ.

- Two sons of a general try to prove that he did not give an order that resulted in the Indian massacre of a wagon train and army fort. The Arizona wilderness, 1880. Gen. Fletcher Blackwell sends a message telling Capt. Walsh, who is escorting a wagon-train through Apache territory, heading for the fort at Furnace Creek, that he should cancel the escort and rush to another town. Apache leader "Little Dog" is leading the attack on the wagon-train and massacring everyone at the poorly manned fort. As a result the treaty is broken with the Indians and the white settlers take over the territory with the help of the calvary, as the Apaches are wiped out and only "Little Dog" remains at large. - Calamity Jane is despatched to find out who's smuggling rifles to the Indians, and winds up married to a hapless correspondence school dentist as part of her cover. Someone is selling guns to the Indians and in order to find the culprit Calamity Jane and a secret agent go undercover posing as man and wife. When the agent is killed Jane recruits a new husband - none other than innocent dupe "Painless" Peter Potter, a totally inept dentist and confirmed coward who's main goal is to leave the barbaric west far behind. When their wagon train is attacked by the Indians it's Jane's sharpshooting that saves the day, but she gives the credit to Potter making him an instant hero to the townspeople and instant target to both the Indians and the gunrunners. • Bledoliki je američka vestern filmska komedija snimljena 1948. godine u režiji Normana Z. Mek Leoda. Protagonista, čiji lik tumači Bob Houp, je "Bezbolni" Poter, nespretni zubar koji odlazi da oproba sreću na Divljem zapadu i tamo sreće Kalamiti Džejn (čiji lik tumači Džejn Rasel), bivšu odmetnicu koja kao tajna agentkinja američke vlade nastoji da razotkrije krijumčare koji prodaju oružje Indijancima. Radnja prikazuje kako Poter sticajem okolnosti preuzima zasluge za sve Kalamitine poduhvate, a što na kraju dovede do niza komičnih nesporazuma. Iskusni komičar Houp i prsata lepotica Rasel su se pokazali kao izuzetno uspešan filmski tandem, pa je The Paleface doživeo ogroman komercijalni uspeh. Pesma Buttons and Bows koju njih dvoje izvode je dobila Oskara za najbolju originalnu pesmu. Godine 1952. su Houp i Raselova ponovo nastupili u nastavku pod naslovom Son of Paleface (Sin Bledolikog). Godine 1968. je snimljen rimejk pod naslovom The Shakiest Gun in the West (Najdrhtaviji pištolj Zapada).

- Dunson is driving his cattle to Red River when his adopted son, Matthew, turns against him. Fourteen years after starting his cattle ranch in Texas, Tom Dunston is finally ready to drive his 10,000 head of cattle to market. Back then Dunston, his sidekick Nadine Groot and a teen-aged boy, Matt Garth -who was the only survivor of an Indian attack on a wagon train - started off with only two head of cattle. The neatest market however is in Missouri, a 1000 miles away. Dunston is a hard task master demanding a great deal from the men who have signed up for the drive. Matt is a grown man now and fought in the Civil War. He has his own mind as well and he soon runs up against the stubborn Dunston who won't listen to advice from anyone. Soon, the men on the drive are taking sides and Matt ends up in charge with Dunston vowing to kill him. • Tomas Danson (J. Wayne) tvrdoglav je i uporan čovek koji iznad svega želi da ima veliki ranč u Teksasu. Ostavlja svoju verenicu Fen (C. Grey) i odlazi prema Teksasu sa iskusnim prijateljem, starim Nejdinom Grotom (W. Brennan). Sazna da mu je verenica ubijena u indijanskom napadu na karavan i nađe dečaka Metjua "Meta" Garta koga uzme i usvoji. Sa svega nekoliko grla stoke Danson prelazi sa Grotom i Metom Crvenu reku i proglasi prostrane zelene pašnjake svojom zemljom. Kada mu se usprotive dvojica Meksikanaca tvrdeći da je vlasnik zemlje neki drugi čovek, Danson ubije jednog i kaže da želi videti ko će mu se suprotstaviti i oduzeti vlasništvo ranča. Četrnaest godina kasnije Danson, Met (M. Clift) i Grot vode veliki ranč sa hiljadama goveda, ali nalaze se na rubu propasti jer je Danson za vreme Građanskog rata bio na južnjačkoj strani. Saznavši da je cena stoke u Misuriju dobra, Danson odluči da svu stoku goni do Misurija i tamo je proda. Unajmi iskusnog revolveraša Čerija Valansa (J. Ireland) i mnogo goniča stoke, i kreće na iscrpljujući put stotinama milja kroz divljinu... Prvi od ukupno pet vesterna koje je veliki holivudski klasik Hauard Hoks režirao u svojoj dugoj filmskoj karijeri i, uz "Rio Bravo", svakako njegov najbolji vestern (preostala tri su "Veliko nebo", poznatiji pod naslovom "Tajna Indijanke", zatim "El Dorado" i "Rio Lobo"). "Crvena reka" posebno je značajan film ne samo u Hoksovoj karijeri već i u karijeri glumca Džona Vejna, koga do tada nije posebno cenio ni njegov prijatelj i mentor, reditelj Džon Ford. - Framed for a murder he didn't commit, a cowboy must stay one step ahead of the law as he hunts for the real killer.
