O silnim antivesternima, da i ne govorimo... Ostareli revolveraš i nekadašnji šerif prisiljen je da prekine penziju kada mu jedan od njegovih bivših uhapšenika otme ćerku. Revolveri su napunjeni, a Sem Burgejd (C. Heston) i Zek Provo (J. Coburn) spremaju se na obračun. Ostareli šerif Sem Burgejd postaje meta osvete. Zatvorenik Zek Provo i šestorica zatvorenika organizuju bekstvo tokom prisilnog rada. Provoa ne zanima sloboda, već prilika za osvetu čoveku koji ga je smestio u zatvor. Sem Burgejd je ujedno i odgovoran za smrt njegove žene, koja je stradala u pucnjavi u kojoj je zarobljen. Burgejd, koji je već u penziji, nema nameru da se upušta u nove obračune.
